Sizing a Soccer Goalie Glove

When selecting the correct size of soccer Goalie Gloves you want to make sure they fit snuggly but are not too tight. Your hand should not be able to slide around inside the glove however the glove should be somewhat oversized in order for the goal keeper’s hands to cover extra surface area. The glove should have enough flexibility in order to have both feel and handle the ball but also sufficient padding to protect your hands.

When you make a fist with your glove, the fingertips should never touch the end of the glove.

When you are selecting the correct soccer glove size online there are some general rules that can help you make your proper size selection.

Hand for measuring a soccer goalie glove1. Measure around the widest part of your palm (circumference), excluding your thumb. Once you determine this measurement add   1” to the measurement and this will be glove size.

2. You can measure your hand from the tip of your middle finger to the base of the hand where it meets the wrist. This measurement is then rounded “up” to the next inch and 1” is added to this measurement to determine your glove size.

When you are determining your glove size it is important to remember that your hands are not the same size. Remember to measure both of your hands and order you gloves based on the larger of your two hands. You will want to stay within the general rule of ¼’ to ½” of space between your fingertip and the glove.

If you are trying to determine a general glove size for an individual you can use the following guide. However, the glove size can fluctuate based on the individual’s physiology, weight, etc.

Size 4 or 5 (jr) – Small youth keeper, age 7 to 9, height range 4’ 6” size 4 and 4’8”size 5.
Size 6 or 7(jr) – Medium youth keeper, age 10 to 12. Height range 4’10″ size 6 and 5’0″size 7.
Size 7 – Small adult or large youth keeper. Height range 5’2″ to 5’4″,
Size 8 – Small to medium adult keeper. Height range 5’4″ – 5’7″
Size 9 – Medium keeper. Approximate height range 5’8″ – 5’10″
Size 10 – Medium to large keeper. 5’10″ to 6’1″
Size 11 – Larger keeper. 6’2″ to 6’3”
Size 12 – Very large keeper. 6’4″
