Cleaning Your Soccer Goalie Gloves

Once you have made the investment in a great pair of Soccer Goalie Gloves, you will want to get the best performance and longest life out of them as possible. The proper cleaning of your gloves will be a critical component in accomplishing this goal.

There are some simple do’s and don’ts that you can follow to help you get the longest life and best performance out of your gloves. Do’s To maintain your goalie gloves you must care for them. This can be done by following a 5 step simple routine;

First you will want to dampen the gloves in lukewarm water. This can be accomplished but submerging them in a prepared plastic tub, sink etc. of lukewarm water.

Once the gloves are thoroughly wet, you will want to apply your glove wash solution utilizing a spray bottle. This will control the application of solution directly to the areas that require it most as well as you will use less wash in the process.

After applying the glove wash solution to your gloves, thoroughly message the solution onto the surface of the glove. Be sure to work all areas of the latex including the palm, wristband and Velcro. This will remove any dirt and mud from the glove.

You will then want to remove all the glove wash soap from the glove buy rinsing the gloves. Your gloves will need to be submerged and rinsed. Removing the wash may require you to rinse as many as two or three times. It is important to rinse by submersion as many times as necessary to remove all of the detergent.

Lastly, you want to dry your goalie glove immediately following washing them and as thoroughly as possible. Wrap or place your gloves on or in a towel and apply hand pressure to your washed gloves. After you have removed the majority of the moisture they may be allowed to air dry. Airing overnight should be sufficient for them to be completely dry.

Don’ts

- Do not dry your gloves on any type of hot surface, oven, etc.

- Do not place your gloves in direct sunlight when you are air drying your gloves.

- Do not put your gloves in the washing machine to wash them.

- Do not hand wring your gloves to remove excess water

Heat, sunlight, washing detergents, the spinning motion washing machines and hand wringing will all damage the latex of your goalie gloves reducing their performance and lifespan.

Do not wait to wash your gloves. The will allow bacteria to grow on or in your gloves. It will also allow accumulated mud and dirt to dry onto the latex which will make cleaning more difficult.

It is important to remember, the proper care of your soccer goalie gloves will ensure the longest wear with the absolute best performance possible!
